Southeastern Contracting Inc.

Background

In the heart of the east coast, Southeastern Contracting Inc. has carved out a reputation as the premier masonry contractor since its establishment in 2014. Known for their skilled workforce, meticulous attention to detail, and unwavering commitment to safety, Southeastern Contracting Inc. has become the trusted partner for many general contractors in the region.

Meet the Team

Wesley Drye, a seasoned Project Manager, began his journey in the construction industry 25 years ago as a foreman. With three years at the company and over a decade of experience with eSUB, Wesley has seen firsthand the transformative power of technology in construction management.

Bryan Majnich, the Senior Project Manager, brings a different perspective. With a 20-year career on the general contractor side, Bryan joined Southeastern Contracting Inc. two years ago, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a fresh outlook on project management.

Their Approach on Every Project

At Southeastern Contracting Inc., the mantra is simple: “Plan, plan, and plan some more.” This meticulous approach ensures that every project is executed flawlessly. The team, comprising key supervisors, estimators, project managers, foremen, masons, laborers, and operators, relies heavily on eSUB for seamless communication and efficient project management.

Wesley’s Journey with eSUB

Wesley recalls the days before eSUB, when timesheets were a cumbersome task. “Once we got eSUB and started doing our timesheets in it, the process became a whole lot simpler,” he says. The ability to track hours accurately and provide detailed reports to general contractors has been a game-changer. “The GC wants to know how long this guy’s worked for you, how many hours a week he puts in, how experienced he is, and such. eSUB helped with that.”

It made life a whole lot easier.”

Daily reports, once handwritten and dreaded, are now a breeze. Wesley appreciates the ease of copying and editing reports from the previous day, saving time and reducing errors. “It made life a whole lot easier,” he admits.

Bryan’s GC Perspective

Coming from a background with large general contractors, Bryan found the transition to a masonry contractor enlightening. “With the large GCs, we used Procore, a popular GC-centric software, which I really loved. But for a trade like ours, it was way overkill,” he explains. eSUB, on the other hand, offers exactly what Southeastern Contracting Inc. needs: efficient management of submittals, change orders, and scheduling.

Time Savings and Efficiency

The implementation of eSUB has led to significant time savings. Wesley estimates that just on daily reports, they save about 30 minutes a day, amounting to two and a half hours a week. Timesheets, once a daily call-in task, are now streamlined and error-free. “When eSUB came along, everybody was in a drop-down list. It just made things so much easier,” Wesley notes.

Training and Implementation

Wesley, already familiar with eSUB from a previous job, played a crucial role in training the team. Training is typically done in person, one-on-one, ensuring that new hires are up to speed quickly. Most people are ready to go after training. “The tool is simple enough that in an hour we go over how to do a daily report, field notes, and navigate the system,” Wesley explains.

Bryan adds that the bulk of their employees, mainly superintendents, use eSUB for daily reports and field notes. The office team handles submittals, change orders, and other management tasks. “Once they get the field notes and daily reports, it’s kind of on cruise control,” Bryan says.

Embracing Technology

Despite some resistance from older employees who are less comfortable with technology, the team has embraced eSUB. Wesley acknowledges, “It’s your typical older guys that don’t like using computers or iPads or phones that we have trouble with. But we work with those guys, and it’s shocking that they actually pick up on it. So that’s a good thing for eSUB.”

Bryan concurs, emphasizing the simplicity of the tool. “It’s a simple tool, so that’s good.”

Recommendations for eSUB

Both Wesley and Bryan are strong advocates for eSUB. Wesley states, “Once we got it implemented, everybody loved it. All the field guys, all the office people, everybody loved it. It was a big help.” Bryan adds, “The modules we use, they do their job. They really never let me down. So, yeah, I recommend eSUB.”
