Episode #21 features Or who is the Co-Founder and Chief Strategy Officer for Structshare, which is a cloud based digital purchasing platform for Contractors. Or has studied computer science, worked in the financial technology sector and is now focused on the construction technology space.

 The Meaning of #PowerToTheTrades

We discussed his thoughts about the many meanings of the word power in regards to the construction industry and specifically to Craft Workers and Trade Contractors.

What does “Power to the Trades” mean to him? Or said I will say that for me the word power relates to the word empower, meaning that, for years the trades, as you know kind of are the underdog of the industry working the hardest, holding the lot of the risk not always receiving the respect they should. I feel that now it’s the time to give them the tools, the confidence, the respect to be strong and profitable, you know to showcase themselves to have a good reputation advantage and a way to to just be strong within the industry.”

How has technology has powered the operations of Contractors you have worked with?

We discussed the impact of technology on Trade Contractors for improving communications. By using new apps on mobile device from the field construction crews can update the management team in the office about the status to schedule and operations.

Or said  “The most common thing or the most common problem Trade Contractors have as other stakeholders industry are crazy manual workflows that make actually, simple processes very, very, very complex and what we are doing is just taking this processes, specifically in the purchasing workflow specifically in the sourcing and material management with his crazy ugly core business core thing in the trade contractor business between 30% to 50% of the cost, and you know 50% of the operation is relating to the purchasing cycle.

Wrap up

This was another excellent discussion about the use case of technology in the construction industry, and how we can improve moving forward this year!

To all the trade contractors out there reading or listening, keep up your incredible work, and thank you for building and servicing the world we live in!
