ConTechCrew Podcast Erich Litch Discusses Data Driving Success

This episode of the ConTechCrew Podcast dives into the topic of data-driven success, featuring Erich Litch, CEO of eSUB, a project and field management software designed specifically for subcontractors in the construction industry.

With a Bachelor’s in Art History, a law degree from Loyola University, and extensive experience in the software and construction industries, Erich brings a uniquely diverse and engaging breadth of knowledge to the table as he chats with James Benham and Josh Bone about utilizing the latest tech tools of the construction industry.

The conversation shifts seamlessly from French Revolution art to Erich’s past legal projects (including ventures with Shaquille ONeal and Ice Cube) to relevant tech trends in the industry and the need for tech-savvy solutions.

A lot of practices in construction are designed around defensibility,” said Erich, joking that the last stage of construction is always litigation. And yet, there are so many other benefits that can be realized through the use of technology and capturing data in the field and connecting that data to the back office. We are just at the beginning of adoption of field applications and capitalizing on information to drive greater productivity and profitability.

Where do you see the future of construction tech going?

When Erich envisions the future of the industry, he imagines one that emphasizes data transparency, accessibility, and the ability to create data out of activity with applications that add value to subcontractors’ work.

eSUB is at the forefront of providing compelling tools for subcontractors to maximize their business effectiveness,” said Erich. Making data accessible to consumers is top of mind in this process – something that other industries, such as banking or ecommerce, figured out 5 to 10 years ago.

What obstacles are in the way of new technology?

The push for digital platforms, automation, and other tools will take patience; the greatest obstacle is getting past the industry’s notorious lag in the adoption of new technologies.

“Finance is the most advance in terms of technology adoption,” said Erich, who has extensive prior experience in the fintech industry. “I went from that to construction, which is on the total opposite end of the spectrum and so it was pretty culture shocking in terms of just how backwards construction technology was and still is, which is why I find it such a compelling opportunity to transform.”

The future of robotic help with industries is near limitless, and with fast-advancing digital tools, Erich believes it’s only a matter of time before the construction industry catches up with finance, ecommerce, and other tech-savvy forerunners.
